Traditional Hatha Yoga is an ancient system of breathing techniques and physical postures performed while sitting, standing and lying down. Translated as "to yoke or unite," yoga brings balance and equilibrium into our lives by joining effort with relaxation, strength with grace, and physical exertion with mental stillness.
Yoga will lead to greater strength and flexibility, but these are merely by-products of the practice, not its goal. Focusing on your breath will increase your awareness, awaken your senses and help you appreciate the present moment. Reconnection with the body, reduced tension, and profound relaxation are the deeper benefits of yoga—and these benefits can have a positive impact in all areas of your life.
You will be encouraged to individualize your practice to suit your body’s needs. By focusing on your breath and listening to the signals from your body, you can determine whether a pose is good for you, or whether you need to modify it.
